Tests Associated with Diagnosing Genital Warts

There are several different types of tests that help to diagnose genital warts. The most common is a Pap Smear, where the doctor will scrape cells from a woman’s uterine cervix to determine if genital warts are present. The cells are examined for abnormalities. If abnormalities are detected, the doctor will recommend more tests to also determine the root cause. Another test is called a colposcopy. During this test, a special lighted magnifying device is used in order to get a better look at the vagina, cervix and vulva to check for any signs or symptoms that the warts are present. Biopsies and other tests can be given to rule out other STDs.
